Icon Truth Meme

Since there's a lot of icon hostility floating around, I decided to do this:
-Comment with your username and people will comment with what they feel about your icons. COMMENT TO THOSE PEOPLE ANONYMOUSLY, even if it's good or bad. Feel free to use examples, but please try not to hotlink. If you need to, use a regular link to an image.

So, anonymous is on, IP is off. PIMP THIS PLEASE.
And please don't be rude when commenting, there is a difference between constructive and destructive criticism.

Also, even if you feel like you're not the best icon maker, please comment anyway, or comment to other people. This is supposed to help people grow, and see their strengths and weaknesses.

I don't like how they are all the same.
Its like different pictures but they all look exactly the same.
Not much variety

I think you're in a good starting place. Your subject choice is good and the ideas for your texts are starting off in the right direction. However, your text is a bit pixelated and your base choices are as well. Experiment with cleaning up your bases - there are a good selection of tutorials for just that sort of thing over at icon_tutorial - and that'll definately push you in the right direction. I think you have a lot of potential and that you'll go far with some practice :)

likeadoll's shit is too dark. she doesn't have the guts to comment because she knows her stuff is just carbon copies of good stuff. and who wants courtney cox icons anyway? shes kind of rude and stuck up and shes like fourteen and doesnt know a thing!

twistedangel617 is another one who tries too hard and just make copies of shit. she's also conceited and snobby and how did she win that right?

whorelikedior, sweetest, lovenadia, & pretty much every single maker @ _heiressicons make the best stuff on ljever!

emmysdream, toxic___fuck, misty_allure, papericons, & candiies are also great icon journals and communities. they don't get enough credit!

sorry for the negativity @ top. i'm just so sick of those two. but for great icons, check out all the others i listed.

Working with manga and anime materials are always hard for iconers and I think you've done a wonderful job with coloring and text for these types of icons. It's such a difficult medium to work with and I'm always impressed to see people doing it right.

Your cropping is nice, but you may want to try experimenting with color. Curves, exlusion layers, burn layers - enhance colors, darken them, etc. You have a lot of potential.

And I'm personally not a fan of the boxes you have going on in your most recent entry. But I'm not really a fan of boxes.

I lied. Your cropping is beyond nice. It's gorgeous.

You're obviously new and I think you've got great potential. You're not afraid of color and texture and now I think you just have to learn how to clean that up. Check out a couple of the tutorials over at icon_tutorial to help you get acquainted with PS and GIMP if those are your programs of choice and I think you'll be right on your way.

The vast majority of your icons look washed in that peachy/pink overlay that's going around, and while that works sometimes, it's kind of dull when all of your icons have that same wash. Although you do have either excellent caps or you clean up your icons beautifully - because they are crisp and clean without having that oversharpened harshness that many icons have nowadays. You're are very clean and crisp and that works so well for your subjects. Try different color schemes, but definately keep up your base and cropping choices - they're excellent and enviable.

Your strength is definately in your colors. I love the vibrant coloring that you choose for most of your icons - they really fit well. I would work on text - a lot of your icons with text it seems like the text is just added so that there can be text. While, on the other hand, your silent bases are stunning with the coloring. Continue working with color and practice on the text. But definately keep up the coloring. The world needs more vibrant icons :)
