Icon Truth Meme

King K
Since there's a lot of icon hostility floating around, I decided to do this:
ICON TRUTH MEME
-Comment with your username and people will comment with what they feel about your icons. COMMENT TO THOSE PEOPLE ANONYMOUSLY, even if it's good or bad. Feel free to use examples, but please try not to hotlink. If you need to, use a regular link to an image.

So, anonymous is on, IP is off. PIMP THIS PLEASE.
And please don't be rude when commenting, there is a difference between constructive and destructive criticism.

Also, even if you feel like you're not the best icon maker, please comment anyway, or comment to other people. This is supposed to help people grow, and see their strengths and weaknesses.

SO DO IT. THANKS.

You're original and refreshingly simple, sometimes really pretty. Some are boring (default, cherl) or badly cropped (cherl, holding on).

The concept of "holding on" was a difficult one to execute, I think - I wanted to show the hand holding onto the ankh, but I didn't want it to be immediately apparent what the image was, either, without a few moments' scrutiny. That coupled with a more zoomed-out crop? It looked worse yet, and the image, smaller, was less clear. What would you have done?

I'm not certain. I was speaking more abstractly to the layout of lines within the icon. In that sense something feels off, too centred or too skewed, so I might have started there, moving to the side or rotating.

It was a weird picture to work with in the first place.

I agree with the other person about your icons being simple but I really like them. That being said, the Hallelujah icon doesn't seem to fit because of the lack of blending of the text, but you didn't make it so that isn't your fault. I like all of the classical imagery and the Tori Amos lyrics.

"Hallelujah" is one of Esther's very early icons and therefore it oughtn't be held against her, either ;) If anything, my stubborn fondness for it (in spite of its clash with my current aesthetic) is responsible for its continuing presence.

I don't have anything nasty to say, and even if I did, I don't see the point of posting anonymously. I really like most of your icons - even though some of them are, as others have said, a bit boring, they're consistent and I think the general literature/manuscript theme in most of them is charming and represents a lot about you. You're one of the few people whom I can picture through their icons - in other word, I think they say a lot about you rather than being throw-away generic/obsessively fannish ones. They're elegant.

If the requirement for non-boring icons is to have them include bright colors/animation, I doubt my icons will ever be interesting: both things tend to make my eyes hurt, and to have a proliferation would leave me with a pretty constant headache ;)

Some would say that LJ is a headache in the first place! But I am very grateful that you don't have epilepsy-inducing icons.

My very, very early icon attempts back in...oh, 2001? I forget. Were scary, in any case. None of them animated, though.
